eco-friendly business
Ecological awareness
How can an eyeglass store reduce its ecological print? Obviously by the brands it chooses to carry and sell, but also through the myriad of choices related to furniture in general and other minute details related to our business (kitchen, washroom, etc.).
Our eyeglasses
We thoughtfully selected our mainly canadian designers in order to reduce as much as possible the carbon footprint of the transports involved in the shipping of our frames. Also, all of our plastic frames are made out of biodegradable cotton acetate. In addition, both labs we work with for our optical lenses are located in Montreal. It’s also important to note that Nikon, one of the labs we get our lenses from, has a water recycling system that reuses the massive amounts of water that come into the production of optical lenses.
Eye exams
All the cleaning and sanitizing of the equipment related to the eye exams is handled with refillable sanitizers and reusable cloth towels.
All of our patient files are computerized to avoid paper wastes.
Our furniture
All the the wooden shelves in our showroom are built in Montreal by Gauvin Fabrique from recuperated ash wood provided by Bois Public.
Most of the mirrors and chairs in the shop are second hand, reused or repurposed.
Studio Botté, a Montreal-based business that likes working with reused materials, have handled the fabrication of our luminaires.
The works of art in our shop are made by emerging Quebec artists that are aligned with our design as much as our core beliefs.
Our bar corner is built by Gauvin Fabrique in cooperation with Élément Béton in order to allow our clients to have a nice spot to drink one of our refreshments or to get their eyeglasses adjusted.
Our kitchen
To offer a more comfortable and unique experience, it’s important for us to be able to give beverages to our customers to accompany the stylism experience. For that purpose, the shop has a variety of local, eco-friendly and ethical products :
-Our plant milk is bought at a local zero waste grocery store, l’Épicerie LOCO;
-Our reusable tablecloths come from Huit Juin, a Montreal-based business.
-Our loose leaf tea is infused with reusable filters.
-All our cups are secondhand.
Washroom
Our Watersense certified toilet wastes 20% less water than conventional models
Our washable towels save paper and energy.
Our hand soap is bought at a zero waste store and it’s container is made out of durable glass.
We have three bins to sort out all the wastes for easier and responsible waste disposal.
Our tissues and toilet paper are made of 100% recycled fibers, reducing gas emissions by 15%.
